As practising interpreters and translators, performing essential services in this country, it is critical that you have a solid understanding of your obligations relating to your professional duties and responsibilities.

It is of paramount importance that you remain competent and current. What does this mean being competent and current in your eyes and the eyes of the recipients of your services?

Regardless of your practitioner credentials, practising interpreters and translators must develop and maintain a high level of essential skills required to perform your duties in an ethical and effective manner.

So, are you familiar with these essential skills? How would you see your own competence and currency in each of these essential skills? You might like to ask yourself, are you an effective listener? What is your memory retention like? Do you know how to make effective notes?
How do you rate your transfer skills i.e., your ability to transfer information from one language into an other language and visa versa accurately, confidentially and impartially? Are you competent in each of the modes of interpreting i.e., dialogue, consecutive, sight translation and chuchotage to name a few?

These questions and more will be explored and discussed as part of our various modules such as Listening and Comprehension Skills, Memory Retention and Note Taking Skills, Transfer Skills, Research Skills, Dialogue and Consecutive Interpreting Skills, Note Taking in Consecutive Interpreting Skills, Sight Translation Skills, Chuchotage Skills.
The modules covering the fundamental skills are scheduled during the working week and carry 10 pd points each for recertification.
